My philosophy:

Michelangelo said he chipped away all the the marble that wasn’t David to reveal him.

My job is to support you in finding and refining the story within you.

What I DO:

As your writing coach, I help you identify and reach your writing goals.

Whether your idea is still living in your head or you have written ten chapters, I come alongside you in the creative process, using developmental and line-editing techniques to help you create or reveal the best version of your story or book.

HOW WE’LL WORK TOGETHER:

This is an interactive and ongoing relationship! We’ll set weekly or biweekly deadlines and meetings based on your workflow and goals, and you’ll receive my feedback, edits, questions, and suggestions all along the way.

Where I shine:

I specialize in memoirs as well as contemporary, speculative, and horror fiction genres. I work with short stories, works-in-progress, and full-length novels.

I primarily work with adults but have also coached motivated tween and teen authors.

I am generally not a fit for developmental editing of romance, sci-fi, or fantasy writing, but I am always willing to chat about how I can support a project!

Her command of the English language is exceptional, and not only has she a keen eye for linguistic detail, but her flair for writing and style is a foremost foundation for writers. Cortney possesses the ability and knowledge to keep a story flowing. She is able to trim unnecessary or irrelevant particulars that do not add to the overall piece. She edits as a reader and understands this important concept. Her work has been essential in polishing my writing and preparing it for publishing.
